Synopsis

In Senobi, Africa, Steve Blake bursts into the office of lawyer George Bennett and threatens to shoot diamond mine owner Mark Harper, who is being held in the jailhouse across the street, if Harper is released by the police. Steve then explains to Bennett how Harper and the woman with whom he is in love came to be arrested on separate murder charges: Some weeks before, Steve and his air transport partner, Hoppy Owens, fly to the remote Kowali Range, where they have been offered a high-paying job by Harper. Upon arriving at Harper's jungle home, Steve, a notorious womanizer, is introduced to Harper's wife, who turns out to be a former girl friend named Connie. Although the middle-aged Harper is jealous of Steve, he nonetheless entrusts him and Hoppy to pinpoint the location of a jungle village, whose occupants have been attacking his men. Steve distrusts Harper and his partner, Berger, and his suspicions increase when the bored Connie hints that her husband knows more about the village than he is admitting. Despite his misgivings, Steve accepts the job, and he and Hoppy take off in their small plane. As they are nearing the area of the village, their plane develops engine trouble, and they are forced to crash-land. Steve and Hoppy are surrounded by spear-carrying natives, who take them to their village and show them to Meelah, a young blonde woman. Although Meelah, who doesn't speak English, demands that they be killed immediately, Tonga, the chief, orders that they instead be kept as prisoners. Later, when some of the villagers who have been wounded after a fight with Harper's men, return home, Steve uses his first-aid kit to save them and wins the trust of Meelah and Tonga. After Steve discovers a twenty-year-old diary, written in English, which seems to connect Meelah to Harper, he undertakes to teach Meelah and Tonga enough English to find out how she came to the village. Ten days later, Steve has fallen in love with Meelah and has learned that her father, Joe Comstock, made the original claim on the diamond mine. Comstock was then murdered, along with his wife Mary, by Harper and Berger, whom he had hired as engineers. Harper and Berger intended to kill the infant Meelah, or Lita, as well, but were chased off by Tonga. Later, they told authorities that the Comstocks were murdered by natives. Sure that Connie can provide them with evidence to implicate Harper and Berger, Steve flies back to Harper's house as soon as Hoppy gets the plane fixed. That night, after claiming to have failed in his mission, Steve flirts with Connie and suggests that if she gives him the information he needs, he will fly her to the coast. Fearful of Harper, Connie, however, insists she knows nothing. Unknown to Steve, Meelah has followed him to Harper's, arriving in time to see Connie embracing Steve. Overcome with jealousy, Meelah confronts Connie, but is forced to flee when Berger appears. A gun-wielding Harper then orders Berger to beat Steve brutally in front of Hoppy, who soon breaks down and reveals the village's location. Before leaving for the village with Berger and his men, Harper imprisons Steve and Hoppy in his jail. Connie, who has been planning her escape while pretending to acquiesce to Harper, however, tricks the jail guard and frees the pilots. Under cover of darkness, Steve and Hoppy sneak back to the village and convince Tonga and the still-jealous Meelah that they have come to help. The next morning, Harper, Berger and their men find themselves surrounded by Steve, Hoppy and the tribesmen. When Steve accuses Harper and Berger of murdering the Comstocks, Berger, thinking they have evidence against him, attempts to flee, but is killed by Meelah. As Steve finishes his story in Bennett's office, he explains that although he was able to have Harper arrested on suspicion of murder, Meelah was also arrested. Having sent the Senobi police to search for the Comstocks' corpses, Steve now awaits their return. Moments later, Harper steps out of the jailhouse and is shot, not by Steve, but by the police, who found the Comstocks' bodies and determined they were killed by bullets, not spears. Meelah is vindicated, and later, Steve embraces his new bride, Meelah.
