Synopsis

Against the wishes of Doctor Neighbor, the guardian who also loves her, Hazel, who is due to inherit a fortune when she turns 21, marries district attorney Hamilton Rogers, a man more devoted to Hazel's future bank account than to her. Tired of waiting for Hazel to come of age, however, Hamilton leaves her, and then, nervous and distracted because of the separation, Hazel crashes her car. Neighbor attends to Hazel, who broke her back in the accident, and her best friend, Christine, nurses her. Unable to stand the pain, Hazel asks them to let her die. Neighbor refuses, but finally Christine administers a fatal dose of morphine. Neighbor, prosecuted by Hamilton, takes the blame for Hazel's murder, but then Christine confesses at the trial. Years later, Hamilton suffers heart failure and needs a massive transfusion of blood to survive. Neighbor donates all of the blood himself, and so dies while saving Hamilton's life.
