Synopsis
Because Sheriff Burke is too short of cash to pay his daughter Betsey's train fare to the Western mining town of Gold Center, he sends her as a C.O.D. package on the Wells Fargo Express. Gold Center having been taken over by "Gentleman Joe" Slade's gang of outlaws, her Uncle Murphy confesses that he has lost everything and cannot pay Betsey's shipping charges. Labelled "unclaimed goods," Betsey is placed in the care of express agent Danny Donegan, who attempts to protect her from Slade. When Slade, however, claims that, according to Wells Fargo's rules, unclaimed goods must be sold at a public auction within three days, she is put on the block. Slade is about to bid when the "Cocopah Kid," who admires Betsey, enters the room shooting. At that moment, Sheriff Burke, whom the Kid telegraphed, arrives with a posse, and both Slade and the Kid lose their lives in the fracas. Saddened by the Kid's death, Betsey is nonetheless comforted by Danny's love.
