Synopsis
Jack Howard, returning from the war, learns that his father, Sheriff Howard, has been killed by an unknown assailant, and he induces the mayor of Gold Strike to swear him in as sheriff. Jack resolves to avenge his father, though he is scoffed at by local heavies, headed by Jeff Taylor, who spread a tale of Jack's cowardice in the war. Mrs. Howard pleads with Jack not to endanger himself, and he refrains from interfering with the gang's depredations and robberies until Taylor tries to frame a robbery on him and tricks Jack's girl, Molly, into going to a mountain retreat. Jack pursues the bandits, forces a confession of Taylor's guilt in the murder of his father, and rescues Molly from Taylor.
