Synopsis

Sandy Kilday, a poor but hopeful Scottish-Irishman who has boarded a ship bound for New York, is discovered as a stowaway, but a fellow passenger, pretty Ruth Nelson, persuades her aunt to pay the lad's fare. In New York, Sandy joins forces with ex-jockey Ricks Wilson, and the two work their way toward Kentucky, where Ricks plans to ride in the Derby. Judge and Mrs. Hollis adopt Sandy, who meets Ruth again at a country fair. Ruth's alcoholic brother Carter bribes Ricks to foul another jockey, but the rider is seriously hurt, and Ricks is arrested. That same day, Sandy prevents Carter from eloping with Annette Fenton, but they return to find that the judge has been shot and Ricks accused. The crowd attacks Sandy when he tries to defend the innocent Ricks, but Carter's dying confession saves him. The judge recovers in time to witness the marriage of Sandy and Ruth.
