Synopsis

Finch, a wealthy but bashful artist, falls in love with Molly Waddington and follows her without summoning the courage to speak to her until he retrieves her dog and is invited into her home. There he finds the matronly Mrs. Waddington scolding her husband for reading Wild West novels and imagining himself a cowboy; she sends Finch away finding him an unsuitable match for her daughter, preferring instead Algernon Chubb. Finch prevails upon his friend Beamish to smooth the path for him, and Mrs. Waddington consents to the marriage but immediately plans with Algernon to break it up. On the wedding day, a notorious woman named Fanny claims that Finch is her husband, but Finch reveals the plot and prepares to elope with Molly. In a series of mixups involving a cabaret raid, Mrs. Waddington and Algernon are found in a "compromising situation" and forced to permit the marriage.
