Synopsis

Lindy, an innocent girl reared in a small town, accepts a letter for her friend Mrs. Bates from wealthy landlady Mrs. Cribbley, which she thinks is an eviction notice, and thus postpones delivery. When she learns that robbing the mail is a felony, and that her dog has chewed the letter, Lindy becomes fraught with fear. Mrs. Cribbley's secretary, Dick Ross, has reformed from being a thief because of Lindy's sweetness. After his former partner Brogan robs Mrs. Cribbley's house, she suspects Chilowee Bill, a tramp. Lindy erroneously thinks that her "crime" has been discovered, and when she becomes friends with Bill, Dick mistakenly believes that she robbed Mrs. Cribbley. He loses his incentive to reform, and with Lindy, joins Brogan. After Bill robs Mr. Meekton, whom Dick was planning to rob, Brogan accuses Dick and Lindy of double-crossing him. When Bill confesses to save Lindy, Dick knocks out Brogan and retrieves Mrs. Cribbley's jewels. After Lindy confesses her fears, Dick laughs and puts the pieces of the letter together to show that it was only a request to return the garden hose.
