Synopsis

After Fred, an orphan raised by his wealthy Uncle Oliver, marries Clara over his uncle's objections, the two men become estranged. When Fred and Clara's child Paul is six years old, Fred insists that his uncle pay them a visit over Christmas. Uncle Oliver, a very lonely old man, begrudgingly accepts, but refuses to behave amicably towards Clara or Paul. On Christmas Day, Fred goes hunting with his uncle, and unknown to them, Paul tags along behind in his new Indian suit. Uncle Oliver sees the feathers behind a rock and, mistaking the headdress for a bird, fires a shot, mortally wounding the child. After Paul's death, the young couple are about to be divorced when Uncle Oliver awakens from his sleep, realizes it was all a dream and rushes downstairs to embrace everyone and wish them a Merry Christmas.

Notes

The plot of this film was suggested by portions of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, London, 1843, and the nursery rhyme "Little Boy Blue."
