Synopsis

One day in New York City, Irish-American plumber William Grogan, who meets the outside world only through the little basement window of his plumbing shop, sees and falls in love with a pretty pair of feet. The owner is Ruth Warren, a schoolteacher who is lusted after by Norton Colburton, a dissolute playboy. Ruth is about to marry Colburton, but at the last minute runs away and decides to take a Cook's tour. On the boat, she meets Grogan, who has inherited a fortune, and recognizing the feet, he falls in love with their owner. Meanwhile, Colburton sends a henchman to locate Ruth. In various foreign cities, Grogan is attacked and Ruth is accosted by Colburton, who has followed her. Finally, Ruth is imprisoned in a house of prostitution, Grogan comes to her rescue, and the two are married.

Notes

This film had a pre-release showing in Los Angeles on January 31, 1920. It was given pre-release showings in New York during the week of February 8, 1920. According to Motion Picture News, special efforts were made by the distributor Realart to have exhibitors run the film on St. Patrick's Day. The demand was heavy for bookings in Boston that day, due to the large Irish population there. Exhibitor's Trade Review advised exhibitors to "Circularize your Irish societies. Solicit the aid of the Knights of Columbus. The title will be strong enough to interest them. Inform them that your offering shows some of the dominant personalities of the Irish race."
