Synopsis

In World War I England, Lieut. George Surratt marries his devoted Nell, much to the dismay of her sister Hester, who had hoped for the pretty young woman to wed a wealthy man. After a brief but blissful honeymoon, George departs for the front, and while he is away, Nell is befriended by her rich and kindly neighbor, Sir William Farrell. When George is reported missing, Nell refuses to believe him dead and waits patiently for some news of him. After a year has passed, Hester convinces Nell to marry Sir William, but before the wedding, she intercepts a telegram asking Nell to identify a shell-shocked soldier who resembles Surratt. The wounded man proves to be George, and although Hester tries to conceal this information from Nell, the young wife receives a second telegram from the surgeon and rushes to the hospital to nurse her husband to a complete recovery.
