Old Archer, caretaker of Gramercy Park in New York City, is adopted by Terwilliger, an orphan, as his "father" after the old man is arrested for beating the boy when he picked a flower for his dead mother. Terwilliger falls in love with Helen Raymond, a neighborhood girl, but has a rival in Harvey Livermore. When war is declared both boys join the service, and in action Terwilliger saves Harvey's life. On the boys' return Helen marries Terwilliger.
