Synopsis

John Benson, an unsuccessful inventor, spends half his time violating the Volstead Act. Billy, his only son, has acquired a reputation for belligerence because he defends Benson with his fists. As a result, Billy has few friends: Brownie, his dog, and Judge Fawcett's daughter. Finally, when one of Mr. Benson's inventions proves marketable, Sidney Martin, a crooked lawyer, and his accomplice, Walter Howe, plan to steal it. They trump up a false charge and Benson is railroaded to jail. Mrs. Benson falls ill and has to be hospitalized. During the Bensons' absence, Howe, attempting to steal the blueprints, accidentally sets fire to their house, trapping Judge Fawcett's daughter in it. Billy rescues her and, with his Boy Scout troop, chases Howe, who has fled in Judge Fawcett's car. Howe is captured, Benson is freed, Mrs. Benson recovers, and the townspeople praise Billy.
