Synopsis
Unsatisfied with her family's modest means, embarrassed by her headstrong brother, and nagged by her mother, Alice Adams builds romantic dreams and tries to give the impression of wealth to her friends, especially Arthur Russell. During a dinner in the Adams home Arthur discovers Alice's pretense, and she finally realizes she is fooling only herself. Alice decides to go to work to help her father, whose business has failed.
