Synopsis

In the 1840s, Texas border patrol agents Sunset Carson and Frog Millhouse are frustrated in their attempts to police the Mexican-Texas border region, across which various factions are attempting to smuggle goods. One day, outlaw New Orleans sends his minion Hank from Mexico to Texas with a load of gunpowder, but Sunset and Frog have been warned by Agent 17, an undercover patrol officer who works as a servant in New Orleans' home under the name Matthews. Sunset and Frog confiscate Hank's load of gunpowder, although they lose Hank during the chase, and Sunset later sends a request to the U.S. government for more men. Back in Mexico, New Orleans is intrigued by the arrival of Mr. Fontaine, the cruel mastermind of a criminal organization opposed to the annexation of Texas by the U.S. Fontaine persuades New Orleans to smuggle half a million dollars in gold into Texas, where it will be used by his group to foment trouble. At the fort, Sunset and Frog return from patrol to discover that the U.S. has sent a Cavalry troop to take charge, and that the officer in command is Sunset's brother, Lt. Victor Carson. Frog is infuriated and wants to quit, but Sunset, afraid that his inexperienced brother may need help, persuades Frog to stay. Victor sends a message by carrier pigeon to Matthews, requesting a meeting, but the bird is intercepted by New Orleans, who then finds Matthews' badge after ordering Hank to kill him. The next day, New Orleans meets with Victor, who does not know what Matthews looks like, and convinces him that he is the undercover agent. New Orleans returns with Victor to the fort, where Victor tells Sunset and Carson, who also had never met Matthews, that New Orleans is his new civilian aide. Sunset grows suspicious when, upon New Orleans' advice, Victor sends all of his men to one area, leaving the rest of the region wide open for smugglers. Despite the ruse, Sunset and Frog succeed in thwarting the smugglers and confiscating the gold. An infuriated Fontaine orders New Orleans to retrieve the contraband, and to regain Victor's trust, New Orleans kills one of his henchmen, takes his body to the fort and tells Victor that he was a spy who gave false information about the location of the gold smugglers. After New Orleans has Victor send the troops to a distant spot, Sunset and Frog follow Matthews' carrier pigeons to New Orleans' Mexican hideout. There, they use New Orleans' vicious dog to scare Fontaine into revealing the plan to storm the unprotected fort and retrieve the gold. After Sunset and Frog race back to the fort and confront the bandits, New Orleans takes Victor hostage while trying to escape. Sunset rescues his brother, and later, with the gang rounded up, Victor agrees to work under Sunset's supervision.
