Synopsis

Widowed Michele O'Brien moves into a Greenwich Village apartment with her infant son, John Thomas. Her neighbor Harley Rummel, who wants to make art films but supports himself by making burlesque movies, becomes interested in her; but she is interested in her boss, Peter Brock. Brock, a psychologist, is an authority on children (though he hates them) and is considered the country's sixth most eligible bachelor. With Harley's help, Michele keeps John Thomas' existence a secret from Brock. Harley, unknown to Michele, is using the baby in his burlesque movies. Harley convinces Michele that Brock would love the baby, and the child is installed in Brock's clinic. Harley has to make another of his burlesque films in John Thomas' hospital room, but his activities are discovered by a camera hidden in the room to record the child's behavior. Michele is furious but forgives Harley because he saves John Thomas when the baby crawls onto a crane and sets it in motion. Harley, not Brock, is to be John Thomas' new father.
